Altered Book Journals
In this first session of Evening Expressions you will learn the art of altered book journals! Also commonly known as art journals or junk journals, these books are a great way to curate a collection of drawings, photos, writings, quotes, etc. Anything that interests you can be included. In this class, you will choose from a variety of old board books, choose a theme for your book, and then learn how to turn it into a masterpiece! You will be able to end this 4-week class with a fully finished altered book journal.
Week 1: February 1st. Gelli printing
Learn the art of Gelli printing as we get messy and create multiple prints that will be used later on as collage and background paper for your book. Gelli printing is a form of mono printmaking that uses color, texture, shape and line to create abstract prints that are one of a kind. A simple technique that provides endless possibilities for creativity and exploration.
Week 2: February 15. Embellishments
Learn how to create your own embellishments for your book. Techniques include stamping, decoupage, calligraphy, and more!
Week 3 & 4: February 22 and 29. Collage/Assemblage
Learn and explore the art of collage as you start to assemble pages in your altered book. You are encouraged to bring any mementos or photos that you wish to include in your book. Magazine images and a variety of papers are provided. Favorite quotes or blank journal boxes will be added as well as a cover design.
