A Lifetime of Self-Reflection in Art by R.J. Loveland
Definition: The process of introspective thinking and contemplation aimed at gaining a deeper understanding of one’s thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and experiences.
Ron Loveland has spent his entire life contributing to the art world. He has participated in numerous art shows and won awards in Colorado, Nebraska, and Wyoming, with his work also being displayed at the Capitol in Washington, D.C. Teaching has always been his passion.
As a graduate student at the University of Wyoming, he taught undergraduate art students. While working on his Master’s Degree, Ron spent a month in Mexico learning about ceramic shell investment for bronzes and later introduced the technique to the university.
After graduation, Ron’s desire to share knowledge took him to Riverton, Wyoming, where he taught beadwork to the Arapaho and Shoshone communities.
In the late 1960s, he was offered a position at Kelly Walsh High School. Shortly after, he introduced ceramics to both the high school and the local college. His diverse artistic interests, developed through his research into different mediums, led him to teach summer workshops on Batik to fellow educators. Over the years, Ron judged art shows across Wyoming and Colorado while teaching for a collective 43 years in Colorado and Wyoming , 34 of those at Kelly Walsh High School.
Adding to his accomplishments, Ron became the first American author to write a book on the life and work of Dutch artist M.C. Escher after extensive research and correspondence with the artist himself.
Since retiring in 2002, Ron divides his time between Alaska and Wyoming, continuing to create his art.
