November 2021 is the sixth annual Art Through the Eyes of Dementia Show. Due to COVID, we are not hosting our traditional reception this year. However, we are still thrilled to celebrate our artists and feature their artworks at the Nicolaysen Art Museum.
The Art Through the Eyes of Dementia features artwork created by community members participating in Here and Now: Dementia-focused Art Class. Here and Now art classes are conducted monthly through a partnership between Wyoming Dementia Care and The Nicolaysen Art Museum.
We believe that art provides a unique outlet for people with Alzheimer’s and dementia. While they may have challenges with attention and concentration, they still can imagine and experience emotions even though they struggle to express them with words. Art-making and art exploration provide people with Alzheimer’s and dementia with an opportunity to be creative and communicate through art when verbal expression becomes a challenge.
The annual Art Show allows us to celebrate program participants and their art and raise awareness of dementia and Alzheimer’s and resources in the community for support and education.
